# Configuration

Everything lives under **Docs → Settings**. Two decisions matter: which *mode* you run, and which *base paths* your docs live under. Everything else follows from those.

## Single or multi product

**Single mode** puts every article under one base — `/docs/article-slug/`. Right for a site documenting one thing.

**Multi mode** gives every product its own home and base — `/docs/product/` and `/docs/product/article-slug/`. Article slugs only need to be unique within a product, so two products can each have their own `installation`. You can also switch off per-product URLs to serve every product under one shared base.

## Base paths

The base is the URL prefix docs live under — `docs` by default, or anything you choose per product in multi mode (for example `help/product-name`). The settings screen refuses duplicate or reserved bases, and when you change a base later, **the old URLs keep working**: the last ten bases per context are remembered and 301 to the new home automatically.

## Categories

Categories group articles on a product home; they have no pages of their own — a category link scrolls to its section anchor. A category can be shared by several products, with an independent article order per product, set on the category edit screen.

## The docs home page

In multi mode with per-product URLs there is no shared docs index — each product has its own home. If you want a landing page at `/docs/`, create a normal WordPress page there (the Doc Product Showcase block was made for it) and select it as the **docs home page** in settings. That page then also anchors the “Docs” breadcrumb on every article.

## SEO out of the box

PimiDocs emits breadcrumbs with `BreadcrumbList` JSON-LD, canonical URLs for docs homes, and a sitemap provider. With Yoast SEO active, PimiDocs hands its breadcrumb trail and canonicals to Yoast so your pages carry exactly one of each, and keeps its URL-less taxonomies out of Yoast’s sitemap. No configuration needed — it detects Yoast and cooperates.
